What is Cook With Yo?

Cook With Yo is an AI cooking companion for children. It is built by PlatesByYo (owned by Sonya Shankar). The app lets children chat with an AI character called Yo, who guides them through fine dining recipes step by step.

Cook With Yo is available at platesbyyo.ysdspace.com.

Who can use this service?

Cook With Yo is designed for children using it together with a parent or carer.

• Parents and carers create an account and give consent for their child to use the service.
• Children use the cooking companion during supervised cooking sessions.
• You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and give consent.
• Children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU) must have a parent or carer's permission before any data is stored about them.

If you are setting this up for a child, you are confirming that you are their parent or legal carer and that you have read and agreed to these terms on their behalf.

What data do we store?

We store the minimum information needed to run the service:

• About your child: first name, age, dietary notes you enter (for example, nut allergy or vegetarian)
• About their cooking: which dishes they cooked and when
• About your account: your email address and subscription status (managed via our payment and email platform)
• Consent record: the date and time you gave consent for your child to use the service

We do not collect:

• Your child's surname, address, school, or contact details
• Your child's location or device information
• Anything your child types in the chat (conversations are sent to the AI but are not stored against your account)

How to delete your data

You can delete all data about your child at any time:

• Go to the Delete My Data page (linked in the footer of every page).
• Confirm the deletion.
• Your device data is cleared immediately. Any data held on our servers will be removed within 30 days.

Recipes and kitchen safety

Cook With Yo provides recipe guidance for educational and entertainment purposes. It is not a professional cookery school.

• Adult supervision is required at all times when children are in the kitchen. Steps marked "Grown-up step" involve heat, sharp tools, or other hazards and must be done by an adult.
• We cannot guarantee that every recipe is suitable for your child's individual dietary needs, allergies, or medical conditions. Always consult a doctor or registered dietitian for medical or allergy advice. Yo is not a medical professional.
• Recipe results depend on the ingredients, equipment, and skill level available in your kitchen. We cannot guarantee a specific outcome.

What the AI can and cannot do

Yo (our AI cooking companion) is designed to:

• Guide children through cooking recipes in a kind and encouraging way
• Flag steps that require adult help
• Redirect conversations that go off-topic back to cooking

Yo is not designed to and will not:

• Give medical or allergy advice
• Collect personal information from children during conversation
• Discuss topics unrelated to cooking and food

Paid plans (when available)

Cook With Yo is currently free for all users. When a paid plan is introduced:

• Pricing will be displayed clearly before any charge is made.
• You can cancel at any time.
• Refund terms will be set out at the time of purchase.

Our responsibility to you

We take reasonable care to make Cook With Yo safe, reliable, and enjoyable. However:

• We cannot guarantee the service will be available at all times. We may need to take it offline for maintenance or in an emergency.
• We are not responsible for kitchen accidents. Adult supervision is your responsibility.
• We are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from following recipe guidance, except where the law says we must be.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights under UK consumer law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will let you know by email or by displaying a notice in the app. Your continued use of Cook With Yo after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are based in the United States, the children's data provisions of COPPA also apply and take precedence where they provide greater protection.
